Next to the episodes on the Back to the Drawing Board podcast, there exists The Bookshelf.
The Bookshelf is my gift to you. On Instagram, every first of the month, I share with you a book that reminds you how to look, gets you in touch with your creativity. These are not just books for artists, nor people who love art. They are books for people that want to learn to look, whether it's at veggies in the grocery store, or other people's body language. They are books that give you the permission to enjoy the mystery, embrace the curiosity and dive in deep. It is in this mystery that the best ideas come about. With that being said, book twenty one on The Bookshelf is..
My Creative Space: How to Design Your Home to Stimulate Ideas and Spark Innovation by Donald M. Rattner
I still remember the day I received this book in the mail. I had to drop what I was doing so I could flip through it and take it all in. It was not what I expected: it was much more colorful, much larger (so many pages!!!) and it contained techniques that I have never heard of!
I was fortunate enough to have the author, Donald M. Rattner, as a guest on the podcast. I got the chance to ask him all of my questions, get his motivation for writing the book, AND got him to give you guys an example of one of the techniques contained in this book. Take a listen if you'd like to get a more intimate look inside the book and Donald's thought process.
All in all, My Creative Space is for those of you that have noticed your space has an effect on your mood, behavior and thinking. It's for all of you that are too tired of searching for hours on the internet trying to compile all the different advice on designing your home in a way that stimulates creative thinking. In My Creative Space Donald has compiled all of the knowledge and layed it out in a digestible way. I cannot say enough great things about this book! It contains so many techniques (which are science-based BTW) and the techniques vary in scale and scope (some of which you can start implementing today!)
I'm excited to dive into this book with all of you in April. If you'd like to join me, and are ready to design your space in a way that stimulates your creativity (left-brain thinking) then click on the link above to purchase your own copy.
