book nineteen

Next to the episodes on the Back to the Drawing Board podcast, there exists The Bookshelf.

The Bookshelf is my gift to you. On Instagram, every first of the month, I share with you a book that reminds you how to look, gets you in touch with your creativity. These are not just books for artists, nor people who love art. They are books for people that want to learn to look, whether it's at veggies in the grocery store, or other people's body language. They are books that give you the permission to enjoy the mystery, embrace the curiosity and dive in deep. It is in this mystery that the best ideas come about. With that being said, book nineteen on The Bookshelf is..

Print / Maker by Uppercase

Shop Uppercase

I became aware of Uppercase over a year ago and actually loved the idea so much that I had Janine, the publisher and editor as a guest on the podcast. You can listen to that episode here if you want to learn more about the idea behind Uppercase. I've also had this book in my possession for quite some time, for so long actually that this book is now out of print! Uppercase has an amazing collection of other books, so I thought even if you can't join me in reading 'Print / Maker' you can definitely choose another book of theirs to your liking! Their current selection includes: 'Ceramics,' 'Yarn-Thread-String,' 'Ephemera,' 'Quilted,' and many others!

Whether it comes to 'Print / Maker' or any of the other books Uppercase curates, designs and publishes, you can expect attention to detail and beautiful images! Janine curates an amazing list of artists, designers, artisans and entrepreneurs on a selected topic and then tells their stories through both word and image. It's a sure way to get yourself inspired, to give your mind a break from social media scrolling and work, and a great way to learn about art that does not involve going to a gallery or a museum. All artists featured in Uppercase books are living and working artists, so your purchase helps support them, and that is a win-win for everyone involved!

I hope you'll join me this month in 'reading' one of Uppercase's books!
